JEDEC Awards Program: 2014 Honorees

Each year, JEDEC acknowledges the contributions of member company volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding effort and dedication in support of the development of open industry standards in JEDEC, beyond the normal scope of committee activities.

Candidates are nominated by their peers, and the final honorees are determined by the JEDEC Board of Directors. JEDEC is honored to congratulate the following 2014 award winners and their companies.

Award of Excellence

The Award of Excellence is the most prestigious award bestowed by the Association, and it recognizes an individual’s sustained service to JEDEC and the standards community.

Daniel SkinnerMicron Technologyreceived the Award of Excellence in recognition of his leadership as Chairman of the LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 Task Groups. Mr. Skinner was instrumental in driving the development of LPDDR3 in a timely manner to meet the needs of the mobile industry. LPDDR3 was designed to satisfy the performance and memory density demands of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, while offering a higher data rate, improved bandwidth and power efficiency, and higher memory densities over its groundbreaking predecessor, LPDDR2.

Following the LPDDR3 effort, Mr. Skinner has provided significant leadership in support of the ongoing effort to develop LPDDR4.

Mr. Skinner’s colleagues gave several testimonials in support of his nomination:

“I fully endorse and support Dan Skinner for the Award of Excellence in leading the JEDEC LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 TG efforts. For LPDDR3, he worked diligently to balance between the technical requirements and time-to-market pressure and deliver the LPDDR3 spec on schedule, meeting critical market demand. For LPDDR4, which is a dramatic architectural departure from LPDDR3 and has a faster interface speed than DDR4, Dan’s leadership, openness, creativeness and collaborative style has enabled the TG to finish this daunting task in only 1.5 years.”

“Dan was able to focus the LPDDR3 TG to quickly publish a new DRAM specification and is currently moving the LPDDR4 task group to finalize a non-evolutionary DRAM standard in record time. His leadership skills illustrate an in-depth knowledge of both DRAM and controller issues as well as strong leadership characteristics… Dan has created an innovative working atmosphere for companies to collaborate. He successfully straddles the ability to encourage new ideas while still keeping the task group focused.”
